Hudhud – The Bird That Brought the Truth

Hudhud: A Small Bird with a Big Mission

By Niaz MuhammadPublished about 15 hours ago 3 min read

Long ago, in the magnificent kingdom of Prophet Sulaiman (AS), there lived a small but extraordinary bird known as the Hudhud. Though

tiny in size, this bird possessed sharp intelligence, keen observation, and remarkable courage. Prophet Sulaiman (AS) was blessed by Allah

with the ability to understand the language of animals and birds. Under his leadership, humans, jinn, and birds lived in discipline and

harmony.

One day, Prophet Sulaiman (AS) inspected his army of birds. As his eyes scanned the sky, he noticed that the Hudhud was missing. This

was unusual because every creature in his kingdom respected order and punctuality. The Prophet said, “Why do I not see the Hudhud? If

he does not bring a clear reason, I will punish him.”

The birds trembled, knowing that discipline was important. But soon, the Hudhud returned, flying swiftly and landing respectfully before the Prophet. Instead of fear, there was confidence in the bird’s voice.

The Hudhud said, “I have discovered something that you do not know. I have come from the land of Sheba with certain news.” The

Prophet listened carefully.

The Hudhud continued, “I found a woman ruling over her people. She has been given great wealth and possesses a magnificent throne. But I saw that she and her people worship the sun instead of worshipping Allah.”

This was shocking news. The land of Sheba was prosperous and powerful, yet its people were misguided. The Hudhud’s observation showed not only intelligence but also deep concern for truth and faith.

Prophet Sulaiman (AS) did not react with anger or immediate judgment. Instead, he chose wisdom. He said, “We shall see whether

you have spoken the truth.” He wrote a letter inviting the Queen and her people to submit to Allah and come in peace. He then gave the

letter to the Hudhud and commanded him to deliver it.

The Hudhud flew across deserts and valleys until he reached the palace of the Queen of Sheba. He dropped the letter before her and

observed from a distance.

The Queen, known as Bilqis, was wise and thoughtful. When she read the letter, she gathered her advisors. She said, “O chiefs, advise me in

this matter.” Her advisors suggested strength and war, boasting about

their power. But Queen Bilqis chose diplomacy and intelligence over pride. She decided to send gifts to Prophet Sulaiman (AS) to test him.

When the gifts arrived, Prophet Sulaiman (AS) refused them. He made it clear that his message was not about wealth but about faith

and truth. Realizing the seriousness of the matter, Queen Bilqis

decided to visit him personally.

Before her arrival, Prophet Sulaiman (AS) asked who could bring her magnificent throne before she reached his court. By Allah’s permission, the throne was brought instantly. When Queen Bilqis

arrived, she was amazed to see her throne before her. It was slightly altered to test her recognition. She replied wisely, “It seems like it.”

She was then shown a palace floor made of clear glass, beneath which water flowed. Thinking it was water, she lifted her dress

slightly to avoid getting wet. Prophet Sulaiman (AS) explained that it was smooth glass. In that moment, Queen Bilqis realized the greatness of Allah’s power and the truth of the Prophet’s message.

She humbly declared, “My Lord, indeed I have wronged myself, and I

submit with Sulaiman to Allah, Lord of the worlds.”

All of this began with a small bird — the Hudhud — who dared to observe, think, and speak the truth. Though small in size, he carried a

message that changed a kingdom.

The story of the Wise Hudhud teaches powerful lessons. It shows that wisdom is not measured by size or status. Even the smallest creature

can make a great difference. It teaches courage — to speak the truth even before authority. It teaches leadership — that a wise leader

listens before judging. And it teaches faith — that guidance comes

from Allah alone.

The Hudhud did not ignore what he saw. He did not remain silent about wrongdoing. Instead, he acted responsibly. Because of his courage and intelligence, an entire nation was guided toward truth.

This timeless story reminds us that every individual matters. No one is too small to bring change. Like the Hudhud, we must use our knowledge wisely, speak truth respectfully, and trust that sincere

actions can transform the world.
