What the Shorkie!?
Are shorkies a good breed to have? Yes. Absolutely. Shorkies are family-oriented and loyal to their families. They have excellent memory and very intelligent mindsets. They are very easy to train and I have determined that they listen to you speaking and listen out for key words they are familiar with and then associate them with something they would love to do. They really listen. My shorkie wakes up every morning to help me wake the kids for school and she gives them all the goodbye kisses they don’t ask for. All smiles. They are just lovable. If you are not into barking dogs, then this breed wouldn’t be for you because, as I mentioned, they are loyal to family and their territory, and if anyone knocks on your door or they hear an unfamiliar tone in someone’s voice, that will ring the alarm. But they also listen, so just as quickly as they begin to bark and you ask them to stop, they will obey, but still have alarming suspicion about the stranger. I would say that shorkies are very attentive, and if they aren’t watching, they are always listening to sounds and even respond to family members who have high stress levels in their voices. This is really true. If you were to argue with your sibling, your shorkie will get in between you both and commence to barking at you as if they are telling you to get your behinds back and make up. I love it.

What You Aren’t Told Prior to Owning a Bird
I remember being so excited buying my first bird. He was a month old green cheek conure and I named him Luthor. I was ecstatic and overwhelmed and completely in love with this little guy the moment I laid my eyes on him. I did some research prior to my bird ownership, but not nearly enough it seems.

There are so many ways to feed your dog, from getting store bought food to even making him homemade organic meals. Since our dogs deserve so much love, they certainly deserve great-tasting meals to enjoy, too. Why Breed Standards Are Bullshit
I always grew up with dogs. As a baby, we had a “Heinz 57” type mongrel called Gazza, who would permanently be by my side according to my parents. If I started crying, he would go and get my mum and make her follow him to me, and all I remember is how attentive he was, and how he grew old. He started to forget he had been fed, or been let out and the time came to say goodbye. I am forever thankful that my parents were honest when I was 6 and explained that Gazza was in a lot of pain, and it would be the kinder thing to let him sleep forever. I didn’t have to feel that pain for another 13 years when we lost one of our Jack Russell’s, Minnie.

10 Most Overused Pet Names
Once you've gotten a pet as a first time owner, naming him is the fun part! There are so many names out there: names that make sense, like Charlie, and then there are names that are completely bizarre, like Caramel Mocha Frappe. However, we usually name our pets according to their appearance and personality. Or then we name our pets according to our interests, like Chewbacca from our beloved Star Wars. There's an endless list of all the names you can give to your adorable pet. But while the list is endless, people, for some reason, choose the most cliché of pet names you can possibly give.

I Thought I Would Be a Strict Dog Owner
At my parents' house, we never locked up the dogs unless they were puppies and still in the process of being house trained. They roamed free during the day when we were gone for school and work. Rachel (my sister) and I would come home from school and the dogs would come racing to the front door to greet us. Mostly, it was Lady, our little, black Cocker Spaniel that would ALWAYS bring us one of her toys to show us, but never let us have. We were definitely easy going dog owners at my parents' house.

The Love of My Life
I know there are many out there who will say, "but it's just a dog." Firstly, "it's" a "he," and secondly, there's no such thing as "just a dog." I believe there's no such thing as "just" any sort of animal, actually. They all have remarkable personalities; cows listen to music and turkeys like hugs. But for me, my little slice of family comes in the shape of a Jack Russell Terrier. Cooper is not big or brilliantly behaved or even particularly nice to everyone. But he's mine. And through no choice of my own...I'm his. This little dog who doesn't even stand as high as my wellies and who weighs in at quite a hefty stone and a bit has become a torch for me. When I cry, he licks my tears, and when he is filled with joy on his beach walk, do you know what he does? About 100 metres away, he turns around, grins at me, and like a tiny missile, hurls himself from wherever he is, straight into my knees. This is love.

Unexpected Death
So this is a short story on how I had lost my special someone, who was very dear to my heart. To be honest nothing could ever and I mean ever replace the one that you loved the most. I do understand the circumstances that you can't always help them when they need you to. But you can try your best to help them in a way that prevents it from happening again.

Things Pets Do That Make Us Wanna Rip out Our Hair
Animals are a small part of what makes life better, whether it's from a funny online video that make Monday better; or coming home to their adorable faces, there is always something they can do to make us feel better. This is most true for dogs in my household, which currently holds three rescue dogs. They are the highlight of my days and the joy of everything, but things aren't always perfect with them. It amazes me how much trouble these three can get into just in one day, but how they still manage to captivate and steal my heart every day. The following below are just a few of the things that I have dealt with in my house from the triplets of destruction.
