Maintaining your sense of self
Wake Up. Drink water. Journal. Do some Yoga. Repeat (the next day). That is how I choose to start my mornings ever since this forsaken new way of life happend. I personally chose to be ignorant to the news and anything regarding the current state of the world becuase it has left me feeling more hyper-aware and anxious than normal. So far it has been working for me.

Where on earth did this extra 3 inches come from? The increased girth around my midsection? Yes! I am referring to my expanded waist and hip-lines! A couple of months ago, I was worried something was wrong with me. Why? I am a foodie, never skipping meals with persistent late-night snacking. No weight gain to show. I was as slim as someone on a dedicated restrictive diet. As a healthcare personnel, I have the tendency to diagnose myself with all sorts. I had no qualms pinning labels to myself as proof of my loving relationship with food and no weight gain to show. Now I had the extra weight and I was mortified!

Gone are days when after a stressful day at work people will go to restaurants for dinner instead many opt for home cooked food. Our world is changing at fast pace so are the priorities of people. This trend can be seen in the food industry also. More and more people are moving away from fast food to nutritional rich and healthy food. In this stressful and fast-moving life health is everything. Even in US people are becoming more aware and health conscious and moving away from the fast food culture. Studies have indicated people in the age group of 23 to 35 are the most health conscious. Heart diseases are the leading cause of deaths among people in the US. This can be attributed to regular intake of high calorie food mostly fast food. Growing healthcare cost in the US can also be attributed to people adopting a more healthy lifestyle. Healthy food not only makes the body feel light and comfortable but also increases the life expectancy of an individual.

Finding my calm
I'm not sure when it happened; one moment I was awake and thriving, going to class every day energized; the next I was nodding off at my desk at 2 pm. I was yawning at the gym. I was unable to keep my eyes open past 8 pm even though I was getting a full 8 hours of sleep every night.

What gets your body excited?
So what keeps me moving? I would have to say… “Music, Music, Music”. Who can say truthfully that they are not a huge fan of music, and when that song comes on that we all love you don’t find yourself enjoy it by moving with your body while taking it in with your mind and your soul.

How to establish calm in your day to day life!

I set the tone for the day
I remember when I was in high school, due to a series of unfortunate events, I was going through a bout of severe depression, insomnia, PTSD and anxiety. I didn't believe that I could ever get better, let alone experience a joyful or blissful day. Heck, I didn't even believe I'd ever experience "energy" or "vitality" or "motivation". Those feelings were so foreign to me that I thought I would have to just put up with myself for the rest of my life, dragging my feet everywhere I went.

Detox
Every day I take CoQ10, apple cider vinegar capsules, Moringa, Zinc, Magnesium, Lutien, D3, B12 and try to get 5-8 hours of sleep each night. When I only get 5-6 hours of sleep I take a nap after work. I’m 51 and this routine has really chased away wrinkles. I take baths with Epsom salts and oils to keep my skin hydrated and to detox. I meditate every day, often to music or chants or just ambient sound with whale or dolphin sounds in the mix. This routine awakens my pineal gland and allows my to access a higher consciousness.
